A New Release & A GIVEAWAY with M.S. Spencer...

Thanks so much for having me today, Jennifer! I want to talk about my new mystery romance, The Penhallow Train Incident.

Maine, like many states,  is crisscrossed with old railroad beds. The Penhallow Train Incident refers to the fictional Penhallow and Moosehead Railroad. Much like other railways, its heyday came during the 19th century, when it ferried goods, mail, and passengers to many small towns in central Maine. As the story opens, several tourists are enjoying an excursion, complete with a reenactment of a train robbery, when the corpse of a mysterious foreign man is discovered.

Preoccupied with leads relating to the dead man’s presence in Penhallow, our heroine Rachel Tinker is confronted with a new clue. What she doesn’t know is whether it is connected to the victim or to some other mystery.

If you would like a chance to win a copy of the Penhallow Train Incident, please leave a comment below and your email address. Enjoy!

BLURB:

In the sleepy coastal Maine town of Penhallow, a  stranger dies on a train, drawing Rachel Tinker, director of the Penhallow Historical Society, and Griffin Tate,  curmudgeonly retired professor, into a spider’s web of archaeological obsession and greed. The victim’s rival confesses that they were both after a map to the Queen of Sheba’s tomb, and with his help they set out to find it. Their plans are stymied, however, when a tug of war erupts between the sheriff and a state police detective who want to arrest the same man—one for murder and one for bank robbery. It falls to Rachel to solve both crimes…and two more murders, if she is to unlock the soft heart that beats under Griffin’s hard crust.

EXCERPT (G): The Clue

Feeling restless, Rachel decided to go back to work. She let herself into the historical society, turned the sign over to OPEN, and went to her office. Immersed in a treatise on the Scottish roots of Penhallow, she didn’t hear the entrance bell ring below. She looked up from her desk to find the woman from the photo standing in her door, her purse clutched to her bosom, staring at her. “Are you Rachel Tinker?”
“Yes. Can I help you?” Rachel thought frantically. How do I call Toby without spooking her?
“You’re the town historian?”
“Yes.”
The front door dinged again. The woman glanced over her shoulder. Then, eyes wide with fear, she tossed the purse at Rachel and ran. Rachel picked it up and, without hesitating, hid it in the file cabinet. Then she went out to the hallway and walked down the spiral iron stairs to the ground floor. The woman stood near the door pretending to examine an exhibit on Main Street businesses. Beside her, the man from the photo whispered rapidly in her ear, his hands balled into fists at his side. She cringed a bit but stood her ground.
Something told Rachel not to mention the purse. “Hello there—can I help you two?”
The man turned. His face was no longer bland. In fact, the rage sluicing from him forced Rachel to take a step backward. He spat out, “Who are you?”
Excuse me? “I am the director of the Penhallow Historical Society. Who are you?”
This seemed to throw him. The woman touched his arm. “Dad, this lady simply showed me where the ladies’ room is. There’s no need to be rude.”
Rachel made a quick calculation. “That’s right. No trouble finding it, I hope?”
“None at all. Thank you.” She took her father’s arm. “This looks like a very interesting museum. It’s too bad we don’t have time to look around right now. Thanks for your help.” She walked out, accompanied by a now rather subdued parent.
Rachel stood in the middle of the hall. What the hell was that all about? Finally she flipped the sign to CLOSED, locked the front door, and stumped back up the stairs to her office. She moved deliberately to the cabinet and pulled the purse out. For a short minute she considered taking it straight to Toby. Then she opened it.
In the main compartment, she found a packet of tissues, a pen, a ten-dollar bill, a comb, and a piece of yellowed paper, folded in half. She unfolded it. It was a deposit slip from the Penhallow Bank and Trust made out for $233.68, dated August 2, 2005.

Your Heart to Keep by Amanda Mackey...

Hi All,

It’s a privilege to be here! For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been writing on and off for the last 16 years but have only become published in the last 2. It’s been an interesting road! Bumpy at times but rewarding as well!

I’ve always had a love of books and I’m an avid reader. I think it’s important to read as much as you can when you are a writer as it definitely helps hone and fine tune your writing style and skills.
I’m not impartial to writing any particular genre. Whatever comes to mind! I can’t control the stories that begin to come alive in my mind, nor can I control the times that I get an idea!

The characters and plot for my Instinctual series came to me while I was driving! Needless to say I pulled over on the side of the road, pen and paper in hand while I scribbled down a basic outline before I forgot!

Your Heart to Keep is my latest release and was very much a spur of the moment project. I had planned on writing a vampire romance but the story of Holly and Jax overpowered all else so it was a story I had to tell. It touches on the subject of organ donation and how there has been factual evidence that cells have memory and recipients of organs have awoken from surgery to crave foods and other things they never have before. Later, after doing research it has been proven that the things these people were craving were actually the donor’s likes or dislikes. In the case of Holly and Jax, Holly receives Jax’s dead girlfriend’s heart and is confused when she finds that very same heart still carries feelings for Jax.

I live in Australia with my family and when I’m not indoors writing or reading, I like to spend time outdoors, enjoying our beaches or driving to the country.

Also an animal lover, I’m currently sponsoring a tiger named Kamrita. The money helps keep her safe from poachers and goes a long way towards food and health care.

It was nice to meet you all and to tell you a little about myself!

Happy reading!! J

Excerpt:

I squeezed a handful of her hair, kissing her head. “Don’t do this Chloe. Don’t do this, baby. I know you can hear me. Just focus on my voice. I love you madly. Always and forever. Just like we agreed.” I wiped my dripping nose on my arm, sniffing and blubbering like a girl but I didn’t give a damn. I’d drop anyone who had the nerve to utter any macho bullshit like ‘Keep it together, Bro.’ or ‘Come on. Don’t cry.” I kept her inside the car. Even with smashed windows and icy air from outside having filled up the interior, I figured at least it was shelter. As long as the engine didn’t catch fire, I’d stay put. There was no smell of gasoline so at least that was one small mercy.  The ambulance or ambulances arrived, since it sounded like more than one. Turning off the piercing shrill of their sirens, men jumped out, appearing at the upside down windows of the car. “We’re gonna get you out, okay?” My teeth kept rattling. “H…hu…hurry!” Both doors on each side of the car were being pulled. Chloe’s wouldn’t open as it was too crumpled but mine managed to open half way.  “Are you able to climb out?” One of the officers asked. “I’m not leaving her.”  “Sir, you’re going to have to exit the vehicle first so we can get to your girlfriend. She looks pretty banged up there. The sooner we can get her in the ambulance, the better.”
I was rocking again not wanting to feel the absence of her. Some innate part of me knew that when I let her go it would be forever.

The Crime Files Book Series by Jenny Thomson...

Throwaways (Crime Files Book 2) Out May 12th
Don’t Come for Me (Crime Files Book 3) Out May 26th
Genre: #MysteryThriller
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

Introducing the Crime Files

The Crime Files features tough rape survivor Nancy Kerr and her smoking hot ex-Special Forces boyfriend Tommy McIntyre. Together they investigate cases that nobody will touch – often for no payment – putting themselves in danger.

Jenny Thomson came up with the idea for the Crime Files because she was angry reading about women who were the victims of awful crimes who never get justice. The intrepid duo of Nancy and Tommy try and make sure that doesn’t happen.

Synopsis – Hell To Pay (Crime Files Book 1)

Nancy Kerr refuses to be a victim—even when she walks in on her parents’ killers and is raped and left for dead…

Fourteen months later, Nancy wakes up in a psychiatric hospital with no knowledge of how she got there.

Slowly, her memory starts to return.

Released from the institution, she has just one thing on her mind—two men brought hell to her family home.

Now they’re in for some hell of their own…

Synopsis – Throwaways (Crime Files Book 2)

Huddled in a doorway, in a blonde wig, and my best Pretty Woman outfit, I'm already soaked to the skin. As downward spirals go, this was bad.
But I wasn’t here because I was reduced to turning tricks for a living. I was here to catch a killer…

Throwaways. That's the word they're using for the four Glasgow sex workers who've gone missing. But two people do care.

When Suzy Henderson is found dead in a landfill site, her eyes pecked out by crows, they find the finger of another missing woman wedged in her throat.

Nancy Kerr and Tommy McIntyre are on the case and they won’t stop until they find the missing women. But, how can they trust anyone when they can’t even trust each other?

Synopsis – Don’t Come for Me (Crime Files Book 3)

My name is Nancy Kerr and I'm not a murderer. Since my parents were murdered I've come close a few times, but I've never done the deed.

I did tattoo the world RAPIST across the stomach of one of my parents' killers. But to me that was justified, righteous revenge because when I walked in on those monsters who killed my parents, they raped me and left me bleeding to death on the kitchen floor of my childhood home. What happened caused me to have a breakdown and I ended up in a psychiatric hospital where I was in the land of the zombies for fourteen months. I have no memory of most of what happened there.

But, hey, that's another story.

Accused of my boyfriend Tommy's murder, I need to prove my innocence. It won't be easy. Confronted by the same scene as the police, I would think I was guilty too. And, Tommy's still missing, presumed dead; murdered by me.
The clock's ticking…

Jenna’s dreams of Brady become her lifeline as she questions the boundaries of fantasy and reality.

Is her one hope for happiness waiting for her across the sea?

EXCERPT:

“Tyler, wait.” She was breathless, and self-consciousness swept through her as he undressed her. Her body wasn’t the same since the accident. She was thinner from the horrible hospital food and being in a coma. She had scars from her surgery, and she was still tender in other spots, even though she didn’t look half as bad as when she’d first come to.

“What is it, Jenna?”

She blushed and felt a little silly all of a sudden. Since when had she ever been shy with him? The answer was never. “I’m different now,” she whispered. “With the scars, it’s probably not going to be very pretty to look at.”

He didn’t answer. Instead he continued to undress her until she stood before him completely nude. “Come with me.” He moved her in front of a long mirror and lifted her chin so she was forced to look at herself. “You’re beautiful, Jenna.”

His lips were close to her ear, and his breath was warm and soothing. It gave her a chill as she leaned into him. “I’m glad you think so.”

“You’re trim.” He continued trailing his hands from her hips up to cup her breasts. “And perky, perfect. God, Jenna, your breasts are just right the way they lay in my hands.” He tested their weight in each as he fondled them, stroking his thumbs
across her hardened peaks.

“Tyler, don’t stop.” Breathless, and weak in the knees, she leaned into his embrace while he teased and tweaked her nipples. She reached back to stroke him, but he moved to stand in front of her instead.

Starting with her feet, he gazed up her entire body with lust. Once he reached her eyes again, he said, “The scars are still healing and barely noticeable. You’ve been through hell, and you’re still so damn sexy.”

An Interview, Some Teasers & A GIVEAWAY with Olivia Snow...

Interview with Olivia Snow

Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?
Hmm, let’s see. For those that do not know me, my name is Olivia Snow—obvi—I live in a small farming town in Colorado. I’ve birthed three beautiful children and I married my high school sweetheart. Something not many people know is I’m bilingual. I speak Spanish and English.

What made you want to become a writer?
The honest to God truth is I wanted to write a book that I wanted to read. My first novel (Keep It Secret) was written in the POV of two girls. To this day, I have yet to read a book like mine, that’s not to say there isn’t. I just haven’t come across any.

What is/are your book(s) about?
My books are mainly about family and their dysfunctions. No family, whether it’s made up of blood relation or a friendship bond that feels like family, are perfect. I love to write about the imperfections of human relationships.

Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
Oh, they totally have the reigns of the story. It’s literally like voices in my head. I write what they tell me to write.

If you could spend time a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I’d like to spend a day with Cynthia, Vanessa’s mother. She’s a total See You Next Tuesday. I’d teach her a thing or two.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
Every character of mine is in some way inspired by the people in my life, someone I met or someone on TV. I take a fragment of their personality and multiply it by 100.

What genre do you consider your books? Have you considered writing in another genre?
I’d consider my books contemporary romance or new adult.

Have you thought about joining with another author to write a book?
Oh hell yeah. In my perfect world, either Christina or Lauren from Christina Lauren would quit her writing gig, and I’d be part of the dynamic duo. Olivia Lauren or Christina Olivia…has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? J

Tell us a little about your plans for the future. Where do you see yourself as a writer in five years?
I see myself as 32-year-old mother with a 13-year-old daughter, a 10-year-old daughter, and a 7-year-old son. I have plans, dreams and aspirations. But I’d like to keep those to myself. I will say I’m not done writing, not by a long shot. ;)

KIS Series Q & A

Tell us about the KIS Series.
The KIS Series begins with Keep It Secret. Like I said before it’s about two girls, Ava and Vanessa. Cousins, who learn their family's foundation was built on secrets and lies. The girls are night and day from each other. And after Ava and her mother move in with Vanessa and her family, their worlds collide thanks to the sweet and sexy, Gabriel Mason.

The second installment, Keep It Safe, picks up where KIS#1 left off. You’ll meet new characters, read more twists and see how the girls have grown.

Keep It Sexy, out July 14th is the third addition to the series. But unlike KIS#1 and KIS#2, KIS#3 can be read as a stand-alone. This story is about Christian, who is introduced in Keep It Secret, and Billie who we briefly meet in Keep It Safe. KIS#3 is so different from the other two and I’m so excited for all of you to read and follow along on the crazy ride that is Christian and Billie’s story.

Any more additions to the series?
I do have plans for a fourth installment and possibly a few novellas. Nonetheless the fourth will be Keep It Simple, Talon and Mallory’s story. That would be out probably in 2017.

 Keep It Secret
by
 Olivia Snow

After the unexpected death of her father, and her mother's emotional abandonment, Ava Veneziano's life is turned upside down...

She turns to drugs, sex, and alcohol as a way to cope with all the destruction in her life, inconsequence; she flunks a grade and loses touch with her favorite cousin Vanessa.

Five years later, Ava and her mother are reunited with the family they'd lost touch with and they end up moving into their home.

Enter Vanessa Saint John...

Vanessa is unawarely beautiful, with an overbearing and controlling mother. She's never been given the opportunity to have a boyfriend or experience life like a normal seventeen-year-old girl.

However, all of that changes when her cousin Ava moves in, and she finally gets the attention of Gabriel Mason.

The same boy who's also caught the attention of her beloved cousin.

Keep It Secret
Excerpt

Scrambling to find the nearest bathroom I made a sharp turn at a corner and collided with a body; a big hard body at that.
“Watch where you're going.” I barked. Watching in slow motion as my textbooks crashed against the floor.
“Ava?” The familiar voice questioned. Oh, my shit. That voice was in my dreams every night for the past week. The memory of his bright blue eyes haunted me. His lips. God, those lips left torched imprints on my skin and his touch; only his touch was able to obliterate any man who came before him. I couldn't get this guy out of my head. I hated it. I was terrified to look up maybe if I kept ignoring him he’d leave.
“Ava?” He called again. Ugh, take a hint!
Crouching down to pick up my books his hand reached over and touched mine. The cloudiness in my mind dissolved as my senses became highly responsive to his touch. Get ahold of yourself, Ava. Quickly retracting my hand I stood, every fiber in my body was on high alert. Our eyes collided and my fears were rewarded with a panty-dropping smile.
Fuck me...not literally.
