An Interview and a GIVEAWAY with Alexa Bourne

I'd like to welcome fellow Decadent Publishing author Alexa Bourne to Labelle Books. Today, Alexa answers a few interview questions, tells us a little more about her new book, Her Highland Champion, and has offered one lucky commenter a chance to win a copy of it.
So you all know the drill, leave a comment with your email address, and if you haven't done so already we'd love for you to follow or subscribe to the blog. Easy peasy!
Alexa will announce her winner on Saturday, September 1 in the comments section. Good luck!
**** **** **** ****
Welcome, Alexa, how long have you been an author?
ALEXA: Officially, I signed my 1st contract in December 2011, but I’ve been writing toward publication since I joined RWA in 1999. That’s when I considered myself a professional.

Congratulations on your success. So tell us, what's your favourite genre?
ALEXA: Without a doubt romantic suspense!
If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend they start with and why?
ALEXA: I would suggest my 2nd book Fractured Paradise, which should be out within the next month or so. Yes, I love Champion, but Paradise is my favorite of my novellas. It’s my favorite because I wrote about my mom’s hometown in England. The story started out at a way to help me get over my grandmother’s death, but then it became about honoring my heritage.

Oh, please keep me updated. I love reading books that have meaning and just knowing that it helped you heal while honoring your heritage makes me want to check it out even before I've read the blurb or seen the cover. LOL, I'm such a sucker for the emotional stuff.

What is the biggest surprise you’ve discovered about the writing process?
ALEXA: Promotion is overwhelming! I love visiting blogs and running contests and participating in blog hops, but I had no idea the balance between actual writing and promoting was so hard to find.
*chuckles* I totally agree. Can you tell us about one of your current works in progress?
ALEXA: At the moment, I’m working on my very first historical romance! I was asked to write a short story set in historical Scotland. It’s a tall order for someone who has never written outside of her own lifetime, but I’m having fun with it!

I love historicals...*sigh*

Okay, now name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.
ALEXA: I write the rough drafts of my work on notebook paper. As the stories get closer to being ready for submission, I spend more time on the computer.
Name your top three writing goals?
ALEXA: To complete 3 more novellas in 2013 in addition to at least 2 full-length books.
To write full-time with no “day job”.
To someday write a contemporary series about someone solving crimes in Edinburgh. (Of course, I’d like to do some research there too!)
Those are some great goals. Now on to a couple of fun questions. If you had a warning label, what would it say?
ALEXA: Beware- Subject babbles incessantly when excited...or angry.

If you had the chance to meet one of your characters privately, who would it be and what would you do?
ALEXA: I would love to meet Ian MacKenzie! He makes an appearance in both Her Highland
Champion and Fractured Paradise to help the main characters. In my head, he is so sexy and mysterious. I tried to make my 3rd story (Simple Treasures, coming out around the holidays) Ian’s story, but he quickly let me know he’s not ready to settle down yet. And what would I do? I’d so let him do whatever he wanted with me!

*grins* What is the naughtiest thing you’ve ever done?
ALEXA: Naughty? Nothing. I was the sweet and innocent one....Okay, not buying that? How about going home with a guy I’d met a few drinks before....and then finding out the next day he’d been wanted for questioning.......
Ah, the bad boy experience.... *winks*
I'd like to thank Alexa for joining us today. For those of you who would like to learn more about Alexa and her work she can be reached through these links:
ALEXA: Thank you so much for having me stop by! I appreciate your support!

BLURB:
Heather Winchester leads a charming life. With good friends, a beautiful flat in one of the most amazing cities in the world, and a promising future once she finishes her Ph.D., she is finally pursuing her own dreams instead of catering to everyone else’s…except she doesn’t remember any of it.
Malcolm Fraser has returned to his Highland village to forget his failings as a professional bodyguard. Believing he could just lose himself in the mundane activities of running his bed & breakfast, he finds a woman’s lifeless body by the loch instead….

Captivated by Heather as she regains her memory, Malcolm is thrown into the line of duty. As danger comes knocking on their doors, will he be strong enough to love her and keep her safe?

EXCERPT:

She turned to the bedside. A man stood there dressed in dark green sweats, wih both hands clenched around the silver bedside bar. He was handsome, with light eyes, dark hair cropped close to his head, and a firm jaw. It was his hands, though. They drew her attention. Clean skin, defined knuckles, large fingers. Hands rough enough from a hard day's physical labor, and yet, she imagined, gentle enough to caress the afternoon's sufferings away.

"It's good to see you awake." He smiled. "You gave us all quite a fright."
Okay, the Scottish accent drew her attention, too. At once it both melted away some of her fears and sparked a whirlwind of questions. "Where am I?" Her throat scratched like sandpaper.
"St. Catherine's Hospital."
She swallowed hard."Where is that?"
"Fort William." He reached for something on the table by her bed and brought back a plastic cup with a straw. "Here."

"Thank you." The warm water coated her sore vocal cords. She handed the cup back to him.

Wait a minute. Fort William? The only Fort William she knew was in Scotland. "I don't understand. How did I get here?" Ignoring the aches in her body, she pressed palms to the sheets on each side of her and pushed herself up. The blanket fell away from her chest and a new chill surrounded her. "What's going on?"

The Progeny Series with Ashlynne Laynne

I'm happy to have the lovely Ashlynne Laynne on Labelle Books with us. Today she gives us first dibs on a picture reveal of her character, Ascher, tells us more about her Progeny Series, and we learn more about Ascher himself.

If you're in need of a new paranormal romance to read, I suggest you pick up this amazing series. It will not disappoint.

Welcome, Ashlynne!

**** **** **** ****

Ascher Rousseau: Growing Into His Destiny

The Progeny Series is about finding oneself and growing into your destiny. Ascher and Shauna’s characters change and grow from book to book. The series is also about the different types of love—a human mother’s love and sacrifice, Ascher’s love for his vampire clan, sisterhood, brotherhood, and the love of a man for a woman. It was very important to me that there be strong family bonds in this series, but one of the centrifugal threads that weaves throughout is the emergence of Ascher’s Alpha instincts.

I love books with strong kick-ass alpha heroes, but I wanted to do something completely different. Instead of the reader meeting Ascher, as he will be by the end of
the series, I wanted them to go on a journey of discovery with him. I like to think of him as an A.I.T. (Alpha in Training)

When we meet Ascher in The Progeny, he’s disgruntled and questions the reason for his existence. He feels out of step and too different from humans or vampires to comfortably fit into either world. His half-blooded existence is both a gift and a curse.

His genetic predisposition is to be a great vampire warrior, but fires need a spark. Enter Shawnette McCutchin. Shauna becomes the accelerant that feeds the embers in him, igniting his inner warrior and a passion that completely consumes him. She brings with her beauty, mystery, excitement, and a sexual force that turns him inside out. In the course of their falling in love, he begins to see himself more clearly and comes to embrace his destiny, and his confidence is born. Obstacles come at them, one after another, until Ascher’s forced to fight for his love, no matter the cost.

An alpha is born.

In the beginning, I wrote him with boyish charms and his body “more adolescent than man” because I wanted him to transform before the reader’s eyes. During the course of the series, he’ll not only change in appearance but his mannerisms, thought processes and actions will become that of a fierce warrior. Not to mention, the alpha side brings out an intense sexual drive in him that makes the love scenes more explosive.

About Ashlynne

Ashlynne Laynne has always had a soft spot in her heart for vampires but grew tired of the garlic fearing, sun-loathing creatures of old. An avid horror movie fan, she tends to enjoy media and music that is of a younger, more eclectic nature. This was the catalyst for her writing The Progeny. The vampire/witch pairing is unique and different when most books pair vampires with werewolves.

Ashlynne loves writing on the edge and teetering between the erotica and romance genres, and thinks of Ascher and Shauna as the wicked, damned version of Romeo and Juliet. She is currently working on books three and four of her Progeny Series, book one of her upcoming Rocker Series, and an untitled novella WIP. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her family. She juggles the hats of wife, mother, full time employee and part-time writer, hoping to write full time one day soon.

Ashlynne lives in North Carolina with her husband and teenage son.

About The Progeny Series

At its core, The Progeny is simply a story about a man and woman who fall in love, and the fact that he’s a half-blood (half-human, half vampire) and she’s a Wiccan human are secondary factors. When we meet Ascher, he’s grumpy. Frankly, who could blame him? He’s engaged to seal to Ursula—a cold and careless vampire who wants nothing more than to get her hands on a bloodstone— and he feels conflicted about his existence.

All of that changes when he meets Shawnette McCutchin. She’s beautiful, intriguing and possesses some of the most potent blood that he’s ever smelled. A war immediately begins inside Ascher. He craves Shauna’s blood just as much as he craves her body and the closer they get, the
harder it is for him to control his urges. After Ascher calls off the sealing to Ursula, the trouble begins. His family’s peaceful period ends when Ursula’s army attacks the Rousseaus.

This series is about a family of which we’ve never seen before. They share a common mortal and immortal bloodline but loyalty is the thread that holds this clan together. Once you become a part of this family, the others will risk their lives to protect you. We see examples of this throughout the journey. There is no shortage of romance, steam and surprises in The Progeny Series but these books are for adults and contain adult sensuality, language and themes.

Book one of the Progeny Series—The Progeny—re-released on May 7, 2012. The “revamp” is a second edition full of extended scenes, new details and tighter editing. Book two—Blood Bonds—released July 14, 2012.

When love and war make a little wager, what could possibly go wrong?
I am Hephaestus. God of inventions, blacksmiths, and volcanoes. Sounds like I'm awesome right? Well, I'm not. In fact, I'm the loser of Olympus and a new bachelor to boot. Living the single life is great until a decade passed. Honestly if my divorce from the Goddess of Love wasn't bad enough, I am still being rejected by the other women of my home.
Because of an incessant need to make me a pawn in his game, my brother, Ares convinces Eros to make a little bet. A wager that puts my lack of love life to the test. Sent to Earth, I'm skeptical, when suddenly I lose myself in the sensual scent and beauty of the full bodied Vanessa. She is my everything, my perfection.
Sadly, from a single caress upon her silky flesh, I sent our lives into a downward spiral of hell. To save her, I must get beyond my demons of the past. And to save me, she will have to decide if I'm worth giving up everything for.
EXCERPT:
“Vanessa? How---” I didn't have a chance to finish my query, all coherency shattering when she gave my cock a long, slow stroke.

She repeated the action, teasing me into a fury of arousal and I had to bang my head against her shower wall to keep from embarrassing myself. It was the first time she had touched me, her hands small and soft while they pumped me, and as much as I wanted to let her have her way, I knew she wasn't in the right place for that. I could never take advantage of her, even if my body believed otherwise.

Luckily, when I felt her free hand move lower, just above the start of my jagged scar that decorated my leg, I was jolted back to reality. Reluctantly, I unwrapped her fingers from me, thinking that if my cock could speak, it would be cussing me out something fierce. I focused, until I was back in my own bathroom. The cold water no longer helped, so I turned it off and stepped out, wrapping my towel around me. I cringed as the rough fabric grazed against my sensitive tip.

Attempting to get a grip over my powers, I ran my hand over my face to clear my mind and reached for my jeans, the doorbell rang. With a resigned sigh, I donned my robe and headed down to answer it, hoping that my scowl would scare the person away. Of course, my mood went from annoyed to shock when I opened the door and peered down at the eyes that haunted my dreams. They were full of emotions Seeking, questioning. Why did she have to come to me when my heart was still not quite prepared?

Tackelling Self-Doubt with B.C. Brown

THE BOOK THIEF

No, I'm not talking about the recent and popular novel by the same name. (Admittedly, I haven't even read it yet but am told it is excellent.) I'm talking about the "Idea That Got Away" - presumably into somebody else's head.

Say what, B.C.?

Just the other day I was watching an episode of 'Supernatural' (love those hunky brothers and awesome tunes!) and realized that the exact premise of the episode was a story idea I had squirreled away in the "Trunk" portion of my writing folder. Now I'm sure a few of you are wondering what my "Trunk" is, so I'll tell you. The "Trunk" portion of my writing folder is where I store all the small ideas I get that don't seem to go anywhere after a short time. Most of the time these are short stories that I'd hoped to elaborate into something longer (since I am a novelist by preference), or they are stories I didn't think were quite up to snuff - whether it was due to plot holes, stilted writing, or just corny ideas. But seeing this episode of 'Supernatural' made me go back into my writing folder and re-read the story idea I'd had (according to the date and time stamp on the entry) more than 3 years ago and waaaay before the show's writer's came up with it.

What was it that made me decide this story wasn't good enough? Clearly, the idea had been good enough to use as a premise for a fairly well-known television show, so it couldn't have been that. (Although I did see the annotation I'd made at the end of the idea summary that simply stated 'Credible enough?') It hadn't been that I wanted to later turn the idea into a longer story because the folder contained only an idea summary and the original scene that demanded to be written. So what had kept me from fleshing out the idea I'd had before the damn lovely writers at 'Supernatural' and making my own profit from this idea? After a good deal of thought, I was pretty sure I had figured out what the problem with this idea ended up being.

Self-doubt.

Oh, yes, folks! The end-all, be-all of book thieves - doubt. Self doubt is probably the single-most killer of stories all over the world. One could equate doubt to the heart attack; the #1 killer.

Many people could argue that lack of time and motivation kills more stories than ever doubt could. But I'd like to point out the millions (upon probably millions) of novels, short stories, lyrics, and poems that are floating around in existence, unpublished due to that nagging little thought in the back of their author's brains. What I write isn't good enough; what I write will never be as good as (fill in the blank).

Several years ago a teacher once told me to "Forget coming up with something original. There are no original ideas anymore in literature; they've all been done and redone. But what you should do is try to make the ideas that are already out there as YOU as possible. Because any new ingredient added to an old recipe makes it new and yours." I took this advice and ran with it. I realized that plots for stories, while varied slightly, are pretty tried and true and it would be impossible to come up with a 100% unique story that no one had ever heard before. But what I could do is lend my voice, my personality, and how I write to these stories.
Now I'm not saying that I go out and rip off other people's plots. But you have to admit that girl-meets-boy is a pretty straight forward plot whether it's with were-girl-meets-vamp-boy or alien girl-meets-human boy or princess-meets-stable boy or even normal girl-meets-normal boy? But it's my voice that changes the story and makes it unique to me and for the reader. So back to my original thought - the book thief that is self doubt.

Self doubt is the one thing that all writers have, no matter how successful they've been in the past. Everyone who has an idea scrutinizes that idea (whether it's before they write it, while they write it, or after they write it) under the harshest light. Because that idea has to win out against every doubt we might have for that story. (In my case, my doubt was that the idea might not be credible to the readers.) Clearly I found my idea lacking in some way; somehow it didn't measure up. The true irony is that 3 years later I'm watching it on a nationally syndicated television show where millions of viewers thought it was plenty credible - at least if two hunky brothers listening to awesome tunes were included. Just makes me realize that any time that little voice talks up and asks me if what I'm writing is good enough, I should just tell it to fuck off...
And then write two hunky brothers listening to awesome tunes into the mix.

It's the HOT SUMMER HEROES Blog Hop!

CLICK ON THIS LINK to hop on to the next blog:

It's the Hot Summer Heroes Blog Hop!
So what makes a hero hot for you?
I had to think about this question seriously, because for me, it could be a lot of things. I create character's all of the time in my stories and each have unique qualities that I admire. I guess you can say I create a bit of my dream man in all of them, but I suppose in order to answer the question above I'll be a little more specific...
So my hot summer hero would be the type of man who who is tough on the outside, but gentle when it counts. I like a man who is hard working with strong family values. He'd be strong both physically and emotionally, and daring because who doesn't like the 'bad boy' we all itch to be the one to tame. He'd be completely devoted, caring and respectful. Handsome of course, and would rock my world.
How about you?
~GIVEAWAY TIME!~
For this hop I'd like you to tell me in the comments section what makes a hero hot for you, leave me your email address with it of course, and also let me know which of my books you have on your wishlist.
Everyone will be a winner who comments, but the grand prize winner will get their choice of my backlist plus the bonus.
What's the bonus you ask?
How would you like to get flashed? Flashed: Flirty, Fun & Deliciously Explicit is a series of flash fiction by myself and a few other authors for your enjoyment. I'll also throw in a copy of Explicit Encounter's: A Romance Divine free read that features my very own short story 'Piper's Passion' on page 68.
In the meantime, here is the link to my website's book page and a list of my current backlist to choose from to enter:

Sweet Hell & A Giveaway with Rosanna Leo

Greek Gods In Erotic Romance: The Sky’s the Limit

I’m so pleased to be visiting the lovely Jennifer Labelle today. Thanks for letting me talk about my newest romance Sweet Hell.

Sweet Hell is a fun, sexy romp about the Greek god Dionysus and the mortal woman who happens to fall for him. Why Greek gods? Why not! In paranormal literature, there is already a variety of vamps. Throngs of werewolves. Hordes of ghosts. I wanted to do something that was a little different. but still familiar and nostalgic. We all know the old myths of ancient Greece. But can we envision what it might have been like if these gods existed?

This is what I try to do in some of my books, and along the way, these sexy deities get distracted by some very comely mortal maidens. In my first romance, For the Love of a God, I used the god of love. In Sweet Hell, it’s Dionysus’s turn.

The character of Dionysus is an intriguing one for erotic literature. He can drink you under the table but never get drunk. He loves a good orgy. He lives to please women, as many as possible. And he despises work and responsibility. I threw him together with a modern woman who is a workaholic, doesn’t have time to waste on her appearance, and who despises a player. A marriage made in Olympus, non?

The Greek myths provide a romance author with so much food for thought. They are already mostly scandalous. They are full of sex and dangerous liaisons. Most gods can shift their shape and have unusual strength and powers. These tales are a hotbed of inspiration! Not to mention some really gorgeous dudes…
I hope you will join me in falling in love with these characters. Let my Dionysus tease and tempt you.
BLURB:

Dionysus, Greek god of wine and theater, is the world’s original playboy. But lately, he has been restless, moody, and he knows something is wrong. His carefree and bacchanal lifestyle is starting to feel like one long string of meaningless, sexual escapades. Even worse, he is suddenly aroused by the idea of marriage. And to top it all off, Josie Marino, the mouthy, disheveled, and eternally annoying woman who serves him coffee at the local bakery, sets him on fire.

Josie, a Toronto baker of Italian heritage, is not looking for love or lust. Especially not with Dionysus Iros, the most aggravating, demanding customer she'd ever had to serve. With his rippling muscles and sexy, knowing eyes, he's obviously trouble with a capital T. Unfortunately, he's also the star of her every X-rated dream. She’s known players like Dionysus before, and one of them almost got the better of her. Josie determines she will not fall for his considerable physical charms, come hell or high water.

But Dionysus turns strangely protective when a sinister character arrives at Josie's bakery, and they can no longer deny their unwanted feelings for one another. They are forced to embark on a bizarre, sexually-charged journey to hell itself, which threatens to either change them for the better, or destroy them.

EXCERPT:

There were usually two men Josie Marino had contact with at the ungodly hour of five in the morning. Not good contact. Certainly not sweaty, chest-heaving, “take me, take me” contact. And definitely not contact with Petter, the Norwegian male model who lived next door.

Nah. That would have been too perfect, wouldn’t it?

Instead, most mornings, Josie had to settle for haggling with her two least favorite men on the planet. Nelson Tate, the deliveryman from her most important supplier. And Dionysus Iros. Worst. Customer. Ever.

Because of the business, she just had to put up with Nelson. He’d been delivering dry goods to her family bakery for years. Had known her parents, schmoozed with her brothers, and basically enjoyed making life hell for her. Not that he was a vicious sort. He was just far too handsy for her liking.

In the case of Dionysus, he was just an early bird and a womanizer. And couldn’t function without the coffee she brewed first thing in the morning. Invariably, he was already waiting for her when she got to the bakery each day.

Oh, joy of joys.

Not that he was a horrible person either. He just intimidated her with his unearthly good looks. Men like him, not that most men came close to looking like him, rattled her. They were best kept at a distance.

Dionysus was so bloody perfect; Josie wanted to shake him to see if she could muss his seemingly unmussable hair. Most days, though, she just contented herself with a lot of grumbling in his presence. He unnerved her, with his sexy brown eyes and long, dark waves of hair any woman would die for. To say nothing of his body… No, it was best not to say anything about that smoking body at all. She couldn’t help hating him, just a little. No man should look so divine at dawn, when she felt about as put together as a cavewoman.

To makes things worse, the man acted as if he were a Greek god. His parents, in a tragic case of bad judgment, had even named him after one. It was no wonder he was so obnoxious.

On this morning, too, he was waiting at the door when she got there. Looking as if he’d just tumbled off the cover of GQ, and the birds weren’t even up yet. At least today he didn’t have a sleepy bimbo on his arm, like he often did.

“Mr. Iros,” Josie drawled, yawning, as she unlatched the bakery door. “You’re losing your touch. I haven’t seen you with a woman in, what, forty-eight hours?” She pushed ahead of him into the bakery, catching the scent of wine on him.

God, how much did the man drink? She was sure he dabbed a little bit of the stuff behind his ears, and splashed it on his face instead of aftershave.

On any other man, the strange cologne would have been a red flag. An indication he drank more than coffee in the morning. But on this man, it just smelled delicious. As if the scent were his pheromone, oozing out of every pore, inviting her to mate with him. In very dirty ways.

He chuckled, low and deep, and sauntered in after her as if he owned the place. Within seconds, he was seated at his usual spot at Josie’s counter. “Just be a good girl and fetch my coffee.” He lowered his shades and peered at her through sensuous dark eyes that should have been bloodshot at that time of the morning, but weren’t. “And don’t forget. Make it a tall, half-skinny, half-one percent, extra hot, two shots decaf, two shots regular latte with whip. And exactly…”

“I know, I know,” she interrupted. “One hundred fifty degrees. Has it ever been anything less, Your Highness?” She pasted on her sweetest of smiles and turned to prepare the elixir of the gods. She heard him huff as he flipped open the day’s newspaper.

“No need to call me that, Josie. ‘My Lord’ or ‘He From Whom All Good Things Come’ will do just fine.”

She reached for the one percent milk, and contemplated tossing in some heavy, artery-clogging cream just to soften up some of his sculpted muscles. A man with that kind of body had to be on some sort of special diet. With that brawny physique he must spend hours a day at the gym and ingest copious amounts of protein powders.

She snuck a peek at the bulges rippling under his sleeves, turning her head sharply when he grinned.

It was one thing to look like God’s gift to women. It was another thing to act like it.

A Giveaway & A Little Piece of Jan Graham

A Little Piece of Me by Jan Graham

While participating in a reader and author chat recently I was asked if I wrote about real life situations in my books. Of course I answered no, my books are fiction but then I started to think. There is actually some of my life in everything I write. I’m not talking about basing characters on people I know or anything like that, but the background information often contains pieces of me. Let me use my Sydney Cougar series to explain what I mean.

I’m Australian, born in Sydney and spent a significant part of my life living in the outer suburbs of the city. In my younger years, and sometimes now, I’d visit the inner city to meet with friends and socialize. Sydney is a part of my life. The city and I have a history, so when it came to writing my novellas it seemed like the most logical place to use as a backdrop for the stories. Now I’m in no way saying that the books are based on real life because the characters only exist within my mind. The Cougar Club isn’t a real place (although I’d like it to beJ) and none of the events portrayed between the characters has taken place with anyone I know. However, Oxford Street is a real place, the inner city suburbs mentioned, like Milson’s point, are real, you can sit under the harbor bridge and view the Opera House in the distance and watch the boats flitting around the harbor. The streets Katie run down to get to St. Vincent’s hospital in Catching a Cougar are all authentic, as is the hospital. I’ve sat under the bridge and watched New Years Eve, fireworks, caught ferries around the harbor, spent nights in Kings Cross enjoying the nightlife it has to offer and translated some of that knowledge into my stories.

I’m sure I’m not the only author who writes this way and, for me, it makes perfect sense to do so. I’m an avid reader as well as a writer and the books I enjoy reading most are the ones that I relate to on some level. They’re believable, something rings true within me as I read them and I find it easier to engage with the story, like the characters and generally enjoy my reading experience.

For me fiction needs to be believable and in order for that to happen, there has to be elements of truth woven through the fantasy. The truth may be a location like I used with my cougar novellas or it may be something else. It could be a perfectly described emotion, a relationship challenge between characters, or personality trait of a character. It may be a combination of all those things. I wouldn’t be surprised if the things I relate to when reading are experiences close to the authors heart, something they understand on an intimate level.

On a girl’s night out not long ago, one of my friends had just finished reading my first book, Finding Angel. She was surprised that one of the houses described in the book was actually a house I’d lived in. She asked why I’d used my own house and I explained it was just a coincidence. The house sounded like mine, but it wasn’t really, after all most little cottages in rural communities look the same. It wasn’t until I went back and re-read the section she’d mentioned that I realized the cottage described was mine. Without realizing it at the time I’d woven an element of truth into the story and given readers a little piece of me.

An Interview & A GIVEAWAY with AJ Best

When the wires of communication get crossed and tangled, is love enough to bring everything back into balance?

Mary is prepared for the anniversary of a lifetime. Ten years of wonderful memories fill her mind. She can’t wait to see what the next ten will bring. When her plans for early morning seduction fail, her mind jumps to worst case scenarios.

Joe’s attention, focused elsewhere, may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Will he be able to come up with a good reason for forgetting their anniversary?

As the day continues, will the answers Mary finds leave her in tears? Will she find the next ten years dreams shattered before her? Only Joe holds the answers to the questions her heart asks.
Welcome, AJ, how long have you been an author?
AJ: I've been an author since 7th grade when my mother had a typewrite on my desk. I didn't do much with it, except awe my senior English teacher with my final paper. The assignment was to pick a month and write about it. Mine was December the Depressing Month.

What is your favorite genre?
AJ: I am a paranormal junkie. I love witches, weres, vampires, fairies, etc. I don't care if they are f/f, f/m, etc.

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend they start with and why?
AJ: Since I only have out Forgiveness, I fear that would be all I could give them. With a bit of spice, attitude, and boom chicka wow wow, what wouldn't be to love about reading this.

What is the biggest surprise you’ve discovered about the writing process?
AJ: The voices in my head don't agree with what I want to do. There is a constant battle until they get what they want, when they want. It's rather…annoying..

Can you tell us about one of your current works in progress?
AJ: I have so many going on, but I will tell you about my paranormal romance Blue Rose Night. It starts out with pain, loss, and more pain. All of this brings our hero into the situation. He's called toward her pain and her closeness to death. Our hero, a vampire.

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.
AJ: I think they'd be shocked that I'm not as vanilla as I seem.

Name your top three writing goals?
AJ: I"d like to have Blue Rose Night (paranormal) finished by the end of the year. I'd like to have Sometimes Love Isn't Enough (women's fiction) and there is a call out for SCP that I'd like to finish by the end of the year as well. So many words, so hard to put them in order. :)

If you had a warning label, what would it say?
AJ: Be careful what you ask for, you'll get the truth. Like it or not.

If you had the chance to meet one of your characters privately, who would it be and what would you do?
AJ: I'd like to meet my vampire Giovanni. As he does with Kendra - he would wrap me in his arms and keep me safe from the world around me. Isn't that what every girl wants?

What is the naughtiest thing you’ve ever done?
AJ: Remember my warning label? When I was young and stupid, I had sex on the hood of a car. It was just then that the Derby let out next door.

I'd like to thank AJ for joining us today. For those of you who would like to learn more about AJ and her work she can be reached through these links:
AJ: You can visit my 'home' at www.ajbestwrites.com and you can email me at ajbestwrites@gmail.com
GIVEAWAY TIME:
Leave a comment with your email address for a chance to win a copy of Forgiveness. Please see the blurb and buy link above to learn more about it.
