Alexa Bourne's Simple Treasures

Thank you to Jennifer for hosting me again! I’m thrilled to get a chance to come back and share my latest story with you. My current romantic suspense novella, Simple Treasures, was released on December 25th. Merry Christmas to me!
The heroine of this story, Joanna Grainger, enjoys everything she can in life. She appreciates all the beautiful scenes she sees while in Edinburgh for Hogmanay, or New Year’s to the rest of us. As she wanders through the colored lights, watches the fireworks, and listens to the music, she reminds the hero, Colin Munro, of a little kid in a sweet shop. But Joanna has a reason for living her life like this. She almost died.

Before the story begins, Joanna spent time in the US Army. While a soldier, she received an injury that left her with an ugly scar on her chest. Thankfully, the surgical team was able to repair the physical damage and keep her alive, but the emotional scars have lingered. She doubts her own judgment and often struggles with her identity as a woman. Of course, she has had college to keep her busy so it’s been easy to shove her doubts and worries about herself to the back of her mind. But the villain after her in Simple Treasures and the attraction she feels to Colin both force her to deal with her emotions, her worries and her view of herself.

I don’t know about you, but I know I’ve had self-doubts before. Although, thankfully, my own have never been as crippling as Joanna’s are. For that reason, it was difficult to delve into Joanna’s psyche as I wrote this story. But ultimately I’m thrilled with the way it turned out. It’s a story I can definitely be proud of. Plus, setting it in Edinburgh during the Hogmanay Festival gave me a chance to share some fantastic events in one of my favorite cities in the world.

Happy New Year to everyone! Be safe as you ring in the New Year, and may 2013 bring you all some exciting, positive surprises!

Book Blurb:
Take-charge bodyguard Colin Munro believes working for the International Protective Network will be the perfect occupation for him. Unfortunately, his trial assignment is protecting a woman who has no intention of blindly following orders. Aye, he’ll bring the bonnie lass in line because there’s no way he’ll allow her to ruin his chance of securing his dream job.
Physically and emotionally scarred during her stint as a U.S. soldier, Joanna Grainger wants nothing more than to enjoy life. New Year's Eve in Edinburgh marks the beginning of her transformation. But when she witnesses a crime no one believes occurred, her plans come to a screeching halt. To make matters worse, her sexy but headstrong bodyguard has no compassion for her or the victim.
As danger hunts them during one of the busiest times of the year, Joanna must convince Colin she's a worthy partner. But first, can she convince herself?
Joanna bolted upright. Darkness wrapped her in its hideous embrace. And silence reigned. Her heart raced. She flattened her hands on the mattress beneath her.
Mattress. Bed. Colin’s hotel room.
Rustling sounds came from the floor. The bedside lamp flickered on. Colin propped himself up, one knee bent and an arm dangling over it. He squinted against the brightness. “Are you all right?”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.” She brushed her fingers under her eyes.
“Don’t be daft, lass.”
“I had a bad dream.” She smoothed her hair back off her face. Moisture beaded at her temples.
“Here we call it a nightmare.” He smiled, and at once she relaxed her shoulders.
“Americans do, too.” After another deep breath, she said, “I’ll be all right.” Once her heart rate slowed to normal. With her forearm, she wiped perspiration from her forehead.
He stood, padded into the bathroom, and ran the faucet. When he returned, he sat beside her, tucked his finger under her chin, and pressed the cloth to her cheek. The cool moisture soothed her burning skin.
She reached up and covered his hand with hers. “I can do that.”
“I know.” He brushed her fingers away. “But you’ll not.”
After a few seconds, he moved the wet towel across her forehead and to her other cheek.
When he reached her neck, she sighed and closed her eyes for a few valuable seconds.
“Thank you.”
His gentle caress reminded her how much she’d missed simple comfort…from anyone.
“You’re welcome.” The cloth soon disappeared. “Now, will you tell me what you dreamed about?”
“Mark Rawlings. I dreamed I was back in the train car and he was bleeding out on the floor. The guy with him faded into the background, but I could see the man’s hands and lips moving. I couldn’t hear anything, though. Then somebody jabbed me with something, and my blood drained out of my body, but there was nothing I could do. The guy standing stayed in front of me. There was another voice, but the words were garbled.”
“Did you see anyone else?”
“No, but at the end I wasn’t paying attention. I was losing consciousness.” She tilted her head to one side and into her palm. “Colin, what am I going to do if we don’t find the professor’s attacker soon?”
We’ll take it one day at a time.” Strong, confident, able to leap tall buildings and all…even in the middle of the night.

Five Golden Rings,

By Jennifer Labelle

“On the first day of Christmas, My true love gave to me: A partridge in a pear tree.
On the second day of Christmas, My true love gave to me: Two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.
On the third day of Christmas, My true love gave to me: Three French hens, Two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.
On the fourth day of Christmas, My true love gave to me: Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.
On the fifth day of Christmas, My true love gave to me: Five golden ri—innngs ...”

“Okay, okay, just please stop.” Carley giggled. “And please for the love of God don’t quit your day job.” She showed up at Expressive Ink after hours as instructed by her boyfriend and owner of the ever so busy tattoo parlour to finally get the piercings she kept talking about but never had the guts to do. Tonight she’d be leaving with two brand new nipple piercings, to go along with the nose ring, and attractive eyebrow ring she already had. Her boyfriend talked her into it, but she was also there to receive the surprise he refused to give her any hint about.

She approached the back door and knocked, only to be pulled in right away and twirled around in Jason’s embrace as he serenaded her with some Christmas lyrics.

“Come on, Carley, where’s your spirit?” Jason smiled before kissing her quickly. “Besides the song kind of suits tonight.”

“It does, does it?”

“Uh huh, before the night is through we’ll have five golden rings on you. Are you ready?”

“As much as I’ll ever be, and I’m pretty sure you mean to say four.”

“I know what I said.” Jason stood back slipped his hands from around her waist and held her hand as he led the way to the front of the store. The curtains were drawn, the closed sign was flipped on the door, and it smelled a little like antiseptic.

He led her to her very own chair, and stepped between her legs as she sat. Cupping the sides of her face tenderly, he bent over to capture her mouth against his. Jason’s soft plump lips coaxed Carley’s to open up, his teeth nipped at her bottom lip, and then sucked on it before his tongue sought entry, making her moan and struggle to pull him closer to her.

Carley’s hands slid up his chest to the nape of his neck, her fingers gliding through his soft, silky hair, and she bent her head to the side even more to enjoy the wet silky warmth of his tongue as it moved against her own. She could feel his hard length pressed up against her breasts, his hips instinctively moving, allowing her to feel his excitement that matched her own. She couldn’t get enough of him, but then all too soon Jason pulled back a little, “As much as I want to continue...” he rubbed against her again. “We should get these piercings done before it gets too late. I’ve got plans for the two of us tonight.”

“I hope those plans include continuing what you just started.” She pouted, “I’m aching over here.” Her hands left him to trail along her chest, moving lower, she spread her legs a little more and let it linger there a moment to tease him.

“Take off your shirt,” He growled, “Bra too.” Making her laugh as she complied to the demand.

“Yes Sir,” She saluted, still feeling playful. She met Jason three years earlier in the very same spot she was in right then. Only she’d come in to get her very first tattoo then. She’d been too chicken to get anything too big and opted for a small blue butterfly on her left shoulder. There was an instant attraction, and he was so easy to be around that when he asked her out, her answer was an instant yes, and the rest was history.

“Now what?” She bit her lip and sat there bare chested, feeling a little nervous not knowing what to expect.

“Now it’s show time.” Jason slowly applied an alcohol swab against each nipple and smiled when they hardened for him. Next he grabbed a marker to mark the spot where the hole was going to go so the entry and exit holes aligned properly at the base of the nipple.

“Um what the hell is that?” Carley stiffened as he reached over to grab a clamp like thing.

“Relax, baby, it’s just a tool we use to hold the tissue firmly together. We’ve got to line up the two dots as closely together as possible. It should only be another minute and we’ll move on to the next one.” He winked, as he worked.

She bit her lip as she eyed the needle closely, took a deep breath and nodded.

Before she knew it, the clamp was being removed, the needle went through, the loop was in, and her eyes shot wide. She moaned against her slight discomfort. What took mere seconds felt like minutes, and he started on the second one.

“It stung for a minute, but these are actually quite nice.” She stood in front of the floor length mirror and admired her new gold hoops.

Jason stepped up behind her, and wrapped his arms around her mid section. She leaned against him. “No arguments here, but then again I’ve always loved your breasts.” Leaning down again he pressed his lips to the side of her neck, moving them up against her ear lobe, whispering, “They’ll be sore for a few days, but after that I can’t wait to show how good they’ll feel. I love that you came to me for this.” He sucked her lobe inside of his mouth, and looked up again to admire her. “Make sure your hands are clean when you handle the piercings, and apply a good amount of soap on your nipples and on the jewellery washing them off with warm water a few times a day to keep the area clean.”

“Will do.” She smiled, turning into his arms. “Now I believe you were saying you had plans for the two of us tonight. Please tell me we don’t have to go far because sore or not I still want to continue what we started earlier, and I want to keep my shirt off for awhile.”

“Now that I like,” He laughed, “Follow me.” Carley watched him head towards his office and couldn’t help but admire his muscular ass encased in the tight jeans he wore, or the way his t-shirt fit snugly against the broad muscular shoulders of his back. He had a sleeve of art on his right arm connecting to the art on his back hidden behind his T-shirt, and damn she couldn’t think of anyone sexier in her life. His dark hair itched to be tamed, and she loved the feel of it in her hands. She smiled as he popped his head out of the office door beckoning her to follow with his seductive deep baritone. “You coming?”

Nodding, her feet finally allowed her to move, and as soon as she turned the corner he was on bended knee. She gasped. On the floor in front of him lay a bouquet of flowers, in his hand a small velvet box, he gulped nervously, and she sang out, “Five golden ri—inngs,” with a smile. She finally understood his sweet serenade from earlier, making the moment even more perfect.

He got up to stand in front of her. Lightly touching each ring, starting with her eyebrow, her nose, and then lightly caressing each nipple piercing, he then held up the small velvet box. “Carley, I love you, baby. Will you please marry me?”

“Yes,” She cried, jumping in his arms in delight. “I love you so much.”

“Me too, Merry Christmas baby,” Jason whispered, taking the diamond ring out of the box, he finally put her fifth golden ring in place. Lifting her into his arms, he carried her back to his desk to fulfill his promise, and to show her how much she was loved.

The End.

Blurb:   Ally Kincaid returns to Freewill, Wyoming, to see her father after a two year absence. Anticipating a quiet family reunion, she finds herself butting heads with her father’s foreman instead. The man’s arrogance and sexy drawl push all her buttons, making her wonder what he’s hiding beneath his cowboy swagger.

Matt Gentry walked away from the past and shies from the future. No ties means no one gets hurt…until the boss’s daughter, a hot, green-eyed blonde, tempts him to break his own rules.

When tragedy strikes, will building tension and pride destroy their growing attraction or show them the way home?

1.      How long have you been an author?  Published, since 2010. Writing for a few years before thatJ

2.      What is your favourite genre? Western, contemporary usually but I do like historicals too and I’m really starting to like Paranormal(Shape Shifters)

3.      If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend they start with and why?  I would recommend Take Me Home, Cowboy because it’s just my favorite so far!

4.      What is the biggest surprise you’ve discovered about the writing process?  How much I would learn!  Editing can be a grueling process but it’s starting to be one of my favorite parts of writing because I’ve learned so much about my writing.

5.      Can you tell us about one of your current works in progress?  Oh sure, one would be Morgan’s Mountain, which will eventually release through Still Moments Publishing.  It’s about a lost hiker and a broken-hearted down on her luck Search and Rescue heroine.  Sorry I can’t reveal any more just yet J

6.      Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.  Hmmm, that’s hard because I’m totally boring lol.  Well, maybe that’s it, I’m boring.

7.      Name your top three writing goals?

Top 3?  Ok first I’d like to have 4, or at least 4 releases this coming new year 2013, any length.  Second,  I’d like to become more organized…you should see my laptop desktop *scary*.  Third, I’d like to make it to at least one writing conference in 2013.

Fun Questions -

1.      If you had a warning label, what would it say?  No caffeine makes Krista a cranky mom!

2.      If you had the chance to meet one of your characters privately, who would it be and what would you do?  Oh that would definitely be Matt Gentry, the hero in Take Me Home, Cowboy and what wouldn’t I do lol.  Maybe he can replay the scene in his barn office with me J

3.      What is the naughtiest thing you’ve ever done?  Written erotic romance! I have led a sheltered life until now.

4.      Finally, can you give us your contact links?   Sure thing,

“I need to buy that man an answering machine.” Furious, Ally held the receiver away from her ear, eyes closed as the phone on the other end rang continuously. “Come on, Daddy, where are you?”

She was ready to hang up in frustration when the receiver was picked up and then—by the sound of the loud clanging on the other end—dropped.

“Circle K,” said the deep male voice rather breathlessly.

“Where in the world were you?”

“Excuse me?” the husky voice asked.

Oh crap, that’s definitely not Daddy. She’d been so surprised her call had finally been answered, she hadn’t realized there was nothing familiar about the voice at the end of the line “I’m sorry….” she cracked. Wow, where did that high-pitched squeak come from? “I’m sorry, who is this?”

“This is the Circle K Ranch. Who’s this?”

The man’s question held an impressive sexy drawl. Definitely not a voice she’d ever heard in New York City, and one she’d only be lucky enough to find in her dreams.

“I’d like to speak to Jesse Kincaid, please.” She did a mental inventory of all the ranch hands but couldn’t place the voice. And he obviously didn’t recognize hers either. Must be somebody new her father had hired since the last time she’d been there.

“Sorry, ma’am, he’s not here. What can I do for ya?”

“When will he be available, please?”

“Now, ma’am, I don’t guess I’m at liberty to say until I know exactly who it is I’m speaking at.”

God, men could be so arrogant. Why did he need to know who was calling? A simple answer would suffice.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but this is Ally Kincaid. Who exactly are you?”

“Well, well, isn’t this a nice surprise? Miss Ally Kincaid. Did your father know you’d be calling?

She gritted her teeth in frustration. Who does this cocky, know-it-all cowboy think he is?

A Cover reveal, A Giveaway, and a Sexy Teaser with Ashlynne Laynne

First off, I’d like to thank Jennifer for allowing me to appear on her beautiful site for yet another announcement. Today, I’m posting to reveal the cover, blurb and an exclusive hot excerpt for the upcoming, Blood Promise. It is the third in my Progeny Series and will release next month. I got the idea for this scene one Saturday morning while the hubby and I were cleaning the house and listening to Sirius Radio. Madonna’s Justify My Love came on and I stopped cleaning and ran to my writing room to write. This scene comes from a chapter entitled the exhibitionist and is my first bondage-type scene, but it is one of the hottest and dirtiest in the book. My philosophy for erotic writing is ‘hard sex mixed with harder love.’ I love writing the hot stuff, but feel there has to be a strong love element and emotional bonds for it to be satisfying. I think it’s safe to say that Blood Promise will cement my label as an erotic author.

As a prize today, one lucky commenter will receive books one and two of the series and the third when it releases in January. How’s that for an early Christmas gift? All you have to do is answer today’s question for the chance to win: What paranormal being would you love to have underneath your tree?

Now, the next chapter in Shauna and Ascher’s story begins...

Blood Promise (The Progeny Series #3)

“Their love is fated by an ancient prophecy. Now the promise is fulfilled.”

Ascher Rousseau is a half-human, half vampire whose life has been a series of prophecies and predictions. After finding incredible love and passion with Shauna—a Wiccan with powers beyond anything he’s ever known—he seals to her and hopes for happiness. But his enemies seek to destroy all that he loves, and he finds that happiness never lasts for long.

Darkness is descending and a vampiric revolution is nearing. A new brood of hatchlings is born to join their darkling brothers, in preparation for war. A preordained chain of events is set into motion that could lead to the rise of the demonic “cloaked one” and his half-human fallen children, while ending humanity—as we know it.

Can a supernatural love and the loyal bond of a family save the Rousseaus and the world from certain extinction?

Excerpts and Extras

Exclusive Excerpt from Blood Promise

With a stiff tongue, she lapped a slick circuit along the veins coursing his pulsing length and around the delicate skin of his cockhead. A wave of desire swept him, submerging his human nature and awakening the primitive beast within. A throaty growl emerged from the depths of his belly as her mouth slipped up and down his thickened shaft. Her full lips drew in his swollen crown, gently pulling on the tender tissue. His eyes rolled as her tongue tunneled into the sensitive slit, leaving behind her crimson kiss as she extracted a thick bead of pre-cum.

The telltale tingles in his hands preceded the claws springing from his fingertips, as the lengthened points of his fangs bit at his bottom lip.

A combination of wet warmth, hard suction and expertly timed motion lashed at him, bringing his release painfully close to the cusp. She seemed just as turned on as he was. Her moans reverberated through his dick, while her eyes fixed on his unmoving gaze. Steadily fisting him with her right hand, Shauna’s left hand masturbated her clit as her head bobbed up and down—working him hard, milking him with a gentle strength that echoed her familiarity with his cock and what made it explode.

Blood pounded in his head and swirled in his vision until he was lightheaded and panting for more, begging for mercy. His hips pushed upward, meeting each thrust of her mouth with one of his own. Pleasure ebbed and crested as everything inside him coiled and tightened with tension, his vision blurring blind with fang pulsing, blood boiling insanity. “Yes...yes...fuck me with your mouth, baby...make me come.”

Ascher’s throat rumbled with animalistic growling that mimicked the most primitive of mating sounds. A hot mix of heat, bloodlust and unbridled strength welled inside him. The flexing of his hands slackened the bite of the silver manacles, until the sound of twisting metal pierced through Shauna’s mouth-filled moans. He was free, but remained glued to the couch as climax weighted his yearning body. Heated waves travelled through him, bringing the pleasure and prompting the pain of a release brought on so quickly.
