A Captive Heart Giveaway with Tali spencer

Captive Heart

Homely Sexy Heroes

Hello Readers! First, a big thanks to Jennifer for having me over to talk about my fantasy romance, Captive Heart. I hope you enjoy the excerpt I’ve selected. I figure romance lovers like yourselves might enjoy a sample of one of the love scenes.

Today I’m giving away a copy of Captive Heart. Please leave a comment with your email for a chance to win a .pdf copy of the book. On Nov. 15 my poodle and I will randomly draw a winner and either Jennifer or I will contact you.

Captive Heart has been out two months and is a bestseller on ARe, so I would like to thank romance readers everywhere and take this opportunity to talk about the joys of having a less than perfect hero.

Notice I didn’t say the hero is ugly. He’s just… not perfect. Gaspar, the hero of Captive Heart, has a big nose. It’s not grotesque, but it is certainly big and there’s no getting around it. He’s still an attractive man. He’s active and fit. He has beautiful eyes and good teeth and amazing lips. He’s just not gorgeous.

Gaspar’s nose, in fact, appears in the story before he does. The heroine, Julissa, and her sister talk about it because they’ve recently seen Gaspar’s courtship portrait. The portrait’s so unflattering, the girls can’t imagine him as anything but flawed.

When Julissa meets Gaspar, she realizes his nose isn’t that big. And as a captive in his tent, she’s in a position to assess his other, more attractive qualities. It isn’t long before Julissa begins to appreciate what a sexy and intelligent man the emperor who captured her country really is.

Ultimately, we don’t fall in love with looks. Lust, certainly, but not love. We fall in love with people. Gaspar knows he’s not handsome… but though he wishes he were, his most attractive qualities prove to be those that make a man a strong ruler, a good lover, and a friend you can count on.

Blurb:

A vengeful emperor conquered her country…now he’s after her heart.

Julissa has only known life as a sheltered princess in Sebboy's opulent but restrictive society, ruled over by strict parents and the righteous Prophets of her god. She is all but destined to a marriage of alliance until her brother kidnaps a foreign princess as his bride, and Julissa's country becomes the target of the girl’s vengeful brother. Gaspar Leonnte may have a big nose and be the subject of ridicule at Julissa's family table, but he doesn't have any trouble conquering Sebboy.

While fleeing the city, Julissa falls into Gaspar's hands and everything she ever knew changes. When a misunderstanding brings Julissa to his bed, the victorious emperor sees no reason not to enjoy his pretty captive for the night. Julissa should refuse him and honor her duty to her family and Prophet, but how can she fight the passion Gaspar awakens… even if doing so might mean her life?

Excerpt:

As she slid into the bath water, her body astride his, Julissa kissed every part of Gaspar her mouth could find. Every part of him was pleasing. The way his skin sheathed his muscles, the strong cords of his neck, the firm line of his jaw. His hands traveled up her back, swept her hair forward so it spilled across them both, a golden curtain. The ends dangled in the water. In the shadow of her hair, his gaze found hers.

“I think you must be a witch,” he murmured, his lips drifting into a smile.

“And you have raised a pole upon which to burn me.”

Pleasure rippled like music as his mouth assaulted her flesh, discovering her with lips and tongue and heat. Julissa sighed at how readily her nipples swelled, the tips tightening into rosy nibs upon which Gaspar sucked hungrily. With urgent hands, he found her hips and pushed her down, his thighs lifting.

Slowly, governed by her thighs, she impaled herself upon his shaft. He entered her with a rightness so silky and perfect she whimpered. Her pelvis moved, exploring the way his thickness filled her tight channel, finding pleasure in his hardness. It had not felt this good before, or so much like being joined.

“Don’t torment me,” he warned. His hands lifted to her hips as she moved upon him. “You must give me release.”

Julissa leaned in then and kissed his mouth, altering the angle of his penetration so he slid even more deliciously within her. She touched one of his nipples with a fingertip and traced the tempting peak, watching his face change, his lips part as a guttural groan left his throat.

Gaspar thickened within her, impossibly filling her more. “You shouldn’t have done that,” he said with a growl of impatience.

  5. Great blurb and excerpt! I get tired of reading books where the hero and heroine are perfect in every way. It's hard to relate to and superficial. I like flaws or perceived flaws :) Thanks for the giveaway.
