A Character Interview & A Generous Giveaway with Jean C. Joachim: Meet Sam Caldwell

Meet Sam Caldwell, father of Mac Caldwell and Peter Caldwell, hero of Now and Forever 3, Blind Love. Sam is 64 years old, a retired professor of ornithology and a newly married man. Sam talks about what it’s like to be in love again after being widowed and hi role in the new book.

Are you upset your name is not in the title?
Sam: Hell, no. My son, Peter, is the hero of this thing, not me.

Is your love interest the way you pictured her?
Sam: Love interest? I had no idea Jean was giving me a love life. I’m 64, you know. Bless her heart, though. She hit the nail on the head with Patsy. Heh heh, yeah.

Do you have any annoying habits your author did not share with us in your book?
Sam: If she didn’t tell you, I’m not fool enough to!

Are you happy with the profession your author chose for you or would you rather be working at something totally different and why?
Sam: Hell yes! Hate to be repeating myself here, but she knows how I feel about birds.

Would you like to be taller, blonder, thinner or smarter than you have been portrayed?
Sam: Wouldn’t we all? LOL. I’d just like to be younger, I think. Though I’m pretty young mentally.

Are you planning to make an appearance in a sequel?
Sam: Damn right I am! Now and Forever 4 is in the planning stages and I told Jean I was expecting to be in it…especially since I was left out of the first two. She agreed.

Now for a personal question. Is there enough sex in the book for you? Would you have liked more?
Sam: Think I would have like it to be a little more closed door. Not used to having people peering in when I’m making love to a woman. Jean, hear that? In NAF4, only closed door stuff, got that?

Did you author handle your “love” scenes the way you like or was she too explicit or not explicit enough?
Sam: Much too explicit for my taste. I’m a private guy.

How many re-writes did you have to live through?
Sam: I got pretty nervous there for a while. She was slicing away at this book and I kept dodging the scissors…so to speak.

Did your author listen to you when you tried to redirect her/him?
Sam: Hell, everyone knows you can’t tell Jean anything. Mac and Danny already warned me not to waste my breath. So I shut up and it turned out all right. Now I’m a bit worried about NAF4.
I'd like to thank Jean and Sam for joining us today. The Now and Forever Series is a must have, if you haven't already read them. You won't be disappointed.
Please enjoy the blurb and excerpt below, and leave a comment with your email address at the end of the post. Jean has generously offered to give away two pdf copies of Now and Forever 3: Blind Love to two lucky commenters.

Can a handsome, charming, womanizing professor win the heart of a temporarily blind ballerina? Love and desire, blackmail and secrets come to Kensington State University. This full length novel is three parts love and passion mixed with one part intrigue, stirred up with a twist of mystery and heated up to three and a half flames.

Mac walked around to the driver’s side of the car and patted his pockets, no keys. He remembered last seeing them on the front hall table. He tip-toed quietly into the foyer so Callie
wouldn’t know he’d forgotten them. He stopped when he heard the soft purr of Peter’s voice. Mac inched his way to the arch leading to the living room and peered into the room, moving back to remain unseen.

“You’ve been married awhile, Callie. Isn’t it time you took a lover?” Peter asked, sidling up to her.

Mac held his breath but couldn’t stop watching.

“Oh, but I have a lover, Peter,” she said, holding his gaze.
Mac froze. His stomach knotted.

“You do?” The surprise caused his voice to rise an octave.

“He absolutely sizzles.” Beads of sweat formed on Mac’s forehead.

“Does Mac know?” Peter raised his eyebrows.

“I don’t think so.” She turned away from Peter and Mac could no longer see her face.

“I don’t suppose you’d tell me who it is,” he asked, leaning toward her.
Callie whirled around to face him, a broad grin on her face.

“It’s Mac. He’s hot, Peter. So hot…I couldn’t possibly, wouldn’t ever need anyone else. Your brother is an absolute pistol in the bedroom.”

Mac’s cheeks puffed up. He quietly emitted a silent sigh of relief and smiled.
Peter laughed loudly.

“You passed the Peter Caldwell Loyalty Test with flying colors.” Peter walked over to an open box
needing unpacking.

“You know what I could use?” Callie put her hand on his arm.

“What?” He reached into a box then stopped.

“A brother. I don’t have one of those,” she said, blinking back tears.
Peter hugged her.

“You’ve got one now,” he whispered.

We'll announce Jean's winners on Wednesday May 2, 2012.

Best Wishes,

An Interview & A Giveaway with Imogene Nix

One man, one woman, one psychotic alien. Now the race is on to save humanity. Past. Present. Future.

Mellissa Davis is your average bookstore owner and aspiring romance author until one day an electronic book pad slides through the mail slot of her little bookstore. Now all she has to worry about is a sexy time travelling stealthship captain, staying out of the way of the bad guy and saving the universe, past and present. Not much to ask…

Duvall McCord, an up and coming stealthship captain travels to the past to stop the Ru’Edan leader, Crick Sur Banden, destroying the Earth Empire of the future. His mission? Retrieve the handbook for the Elector. He doesn’t count on love, or saving the woman of his dreams. But time is running out. This warrior must do everything he can to stop the plot…
Welcome, Imogene, how long have you been an author?
Imogene: I was only talking to a friend about that the other day. As I’m sitting here writing, it is just on 12 months. Which is really really scary, because in so many ways, it all happened too fast. But then again, maybe it was because I had some lucky breaks along the way and found some excellent support systems too.
Congratulations, what is your favourite genre?
Imogene: Fave? Probably SciFi Romance very closely followed by Romantic Suspense. After that? Straight Science Fiction and then Naval History Fiction.

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend they start with and why?
Imogene: It would have to be Starline, because that is where you are introduced to almost all the main players in the universe. Only one turns up later and that happens in Starfire.
While most of the books are able to be read independently, you will definitely get more out of reading the series. Oh, and in order too, because there are lots of spoilers through the books otherwise.
Sounds interesting, what is the biggest surprise you’ve discovered about the writing process?
Imogene: I always used to laugh about authors who talked about their character talking to them. Well, now I fully understand that.
*grins* Can you tell us about one of your current works in progress?
Imogene: I am currently working on Starburst, which will be the last book in this universe. It is the story of Meredith and Chowd. Great characters with lots of layers.

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.
Imogene: I make wine and am addicted to chocolate. Oh, I also love incubating chicken eggs and
watching the chicks hatch and grow.
Interesting, name your top three writing goals?
Imogene: Top three? Okay, I would love to make it to the NYT Best Seller List, Have people say my books are on their pre-order lists, write at least 100 books.
Those are great goals, mine are quite similar. If you had a warning label, what would it say?
Imogene: Personally? Warning: Scatty female with dog in tow.
LOL, If you had the chance to meet one of your characters privately, who would it be and what would you do?
Imogene: Chowd – because he needs hugs and love. I’d talk to him. Ply him with chocolate and wine.
*grins* that sounds like a fun night. I'd like to thank Imogene for joining us today. Please enjoy the excerpt below and read on to find out what her giveaway is...

“Who are George and Eliza?” McCord peered at her, making her jump at the sound of his voice. She had missed the thud of boots on the flooring during her musings.

Mellissa gulped, wishing the floor would open and engulf her. How could she explain without him thinking less of her, not to mention her characters? George, a rough tough space Captain, and his protégée and maybe sometime lover, Eliza? Was it really something you could just blurt out? “Umm, they are characters in a book,” she said.

“A book? Of course, they were still huge in your time. In ours, only the rich have them. The rest have bookpads.” He smiled. “Who was it by? I might be able to access a copy for you.”

Her discomfort deepened. “Umm, I was writing it.” Her cheeks grew rosy.

“Really? Wow. What kind of book is it?” He looked at her, and she was sure his interest seemed genuine. She cringed at the thought of telling him it was a romance. After all, wasn’t it maiden aunts that wrote this sort of stuff anyway? Let alone read them.

Uh oh, she knew what to expect, she thought to herself. “Umm, it was a Sci Fi Romance.”

He looked at her. “You know, some of the most enduring books from your time are romances. Fancy that.” He grinned, and she could feel the air clear a little. She still felt embarrassed, but not as much as she had.

“Yeah, in my time, romance writers are sort of, well, you know, the bottom of the pack…gaining ground though. We actually have whole associations dedicated to reading romance.” She grimaced up at his face in embarrassment. What must he think of me? I’m some kind of old spinster? But wasn’t that what I was on the road to becoming? an insidious little voice in the back of her head quietly asked. Thinking how she wished her character, George, could be half as sexy as Duvall McCord, she had to mentally remind herself that here stood a real rough-and-tumble Captain and not some figment of her imagination.

“Well, there is definitely a career waiting for you as a writer of romance.” He grinned. “Come on and I’ll grab you a coffee, and you can give me the lowdown on your characters…was it George and Eliza?”

She hopped up quickly and followed him to the mess. Really, it seemed funny how quickly she had settled into ship life, she mused. “So, do you believe in romance yourself?” he asked, and he seemed just as surprised as she did by the question.

“Romance? Yes, absolutely.” Her enthusiastic answer surprised him. It radiated clearly on his face, the way it screwed up slightly. “That’s why I own a bookstore and am writing a novel.”

“Hmm, yes, but did you live alone?” His query zeroed in on a spot she didn’t really like to explore. “I mean, is there a man in your life?”

His gaze zeroed in on her again. She hoped, in fact had prayed, that there was more to the question, and then reminded herself it couldn’t be real. Her imagination still looked for the possibility of a relationship that didn’t and couldn’t exist.
Imogene has generously offered to give away a pdf copy of 'Starline' and 'The Star of Ishtar'.
You all know the drill...

A Giveaway and a guest post with Author Angel Martinez

When you read critical articles and reviews on Science Fiction and Fantasy, what phrase comes up more often than any other does? World building. Yep. That’s part of the draw for most SFF authors. We like to build stuff—cities, countries, empires, continents. But for writers of Science Fiction, the scale often expands to a scary level.

Ye, gods. I need to build a universe. Or at least a galaxy.

I’ve written SF for many years now, most of those stories under my legal name, so when I started writing in the spaceships and aliens genre under Angel Martinez, I toyed with the idea of using the same universe I’d created for the Anchorage series over a decade ago. But that felt like cheating. It was time to start over.

At the center of this new universe, I knew I needed a couple of planetary confederations central to the plot. One would be something on the lines of a constitutional monarchy, with an empress as its head of government. Easy. The Altairian Empire was born. Progressive, egalitarian regarding gender roles, with a culture equally focused on its arts and sciences as its military.

In constant economic/social opposition to and competition with the Altairians, I needed a more loosely based confederation, a government that seemed like a good idea at the time but eventually fell into a pattern of bureaucratic nightmare. What to call it, though? I toyed with Alliance and Federation and Union sorts of names, but all of those have been used and re-used (Star Trek, Star Wars, C. J. Cherryh, etc.)

The physical placement of this confederation of planets produced its name: The Eridani Sector Treaty Organization or ESTO, for what could be better than an acronym as a name for a bureaucratic mess? Those who read Gravitational Attraction are already familiar with ESTO, whose power-hungry admiral plays the role of adversary in Isaac’s story. Vassily the Beautiful, though, looks at the lives of ESTO citizens from the inside, set on one of the peripheral ESTO planets where law is a bit fluid and order not strictly maintained.

Releasing 4/21/12 from Silver Publishing! A new M/M Science Fiction Fairytale from Angel Martinez:

In the city of New Makarov on a far-flung planet at the edge of ESTO space...

A young composer suffers neurological damage in the accident that killed his father...

An amoral, small-time drug manufacturer brings a dangerous new bio-engineered intoxicant to the city...

Deals gone wrong and subtle shifts in the underworld's dealings have made Baba Yaga sons, who act as her security force, edgy and trigger itchy...

Very few constants populate the equations in this new M/M Science Fiction novel, but when the variables collide? Let the mayhem begin...

A faint glow of light appeared above him, growing brighter as he climbed, so he reasoned he must be near the top. As he craned his head back, his right foot slipped. His stomach plummeted to his feet as he banged hard against the ladder and clung there, his frightened gasps manifesting as white plumes in the dark.

Don’t turn into rubber now, legs, please, please don’t.

Shaking, panting, he found purchase again with his right foot and convinced his left hand to move, then his right. He shivered with more than cold, exhaustion and fear making each rung harder than the last. Forcing his body onward, he climbed. He had no choice and he was damned if he’d give up now.

The glow from the rooftop became bright enough for him to make out the building stones in front of him. Almost there…

He stopped as the whine of an airbike split the snow-blanketed silence. Risking a glance up, he nearly lost his footing again in shock. A flame-red airbike angled in toward the building and disappeared over the roof edge. The whine of its engine powering down made it obvious that the rider, it had to be the same one who had nearly hit him that morning, was landing on the roof.

All right, he seemed like a reasonable person. At least there would be someone on the roof when he got there to plead his case.

The surprise was considerably less when his second airbike encounter roared into sight overhead,
the gold bike and rider muted to glowing tones in the soft roof lights. Baba Yaga’s security, they had to be, though the sun-yellow rider’s flamboyance seemed at odds with such serious employment.

Vassily sighed in relief when his head crested the roof ledge, a blurred view of figures moving about on solid rooftop threatening to turn his shaking legs to jelly. He was just about to hoist himself up when the third airbike knifed through the night sky, by the sound of it heading directly for him.

He cried out, legs kicking, when a rough hand seized the back of his shirt and yanked him from the ladder. Instead of falling, though, he hung suspended, dread creeping over him like morning frost as he realized he dangled from the grip of the black-clad rider who had passed him earlier.

The man maneuvered his vehicle over the roof, and in a voice like sandpaper dragged over broken glass, declared, “We have a spy.”

An Amazing Giveaway and a few Tasty Excerpts with Wicked Leanore EVERYONE IS A WINNER!

Want a trip to Nowhere, Arizona? Were gonna have a TAG PARTY!

Madeline found this out. A hardhearted executive from Los Angeles, she came to Nowhere Arizona to finish a deathbed request for her mother. The quest became a living journey to find her heart and soul.

The man for the job of discovery to Madeline's heart? Well, he may not be a man in the mortal sense of the word.
Welcome to Nowhere… Land of Hot Sun and supernatural mirages. Do not adjust your browser. You aren't lost. You just stepped into a place where anything may happen. You might just find out that everything? Means nothing at all.
“Talking to me like that.” She huggedherself and sat facing away from him.

Devon leaned closer. “Like I want you?”

More shivers attacked her skin, and she attempted to keep her body still. “Yes, like that.”

“Or like I want to touch you?”

Tensing, Madeline's senses accelerated to the point of insanity. She tilted her head back and breathed through her nose. A scent like sweet pine from a fresh rain in the forest drifted over her. A fragrance of pleasant days and soothing summer nights remembered from her childhood.

“Like I want to use my mouth and devour your delicious-looking skin from head to toe?” An inviting vibration filled his voice, and Madeline experienced a lustful spasm. His searing-hot mouth descended on her neck, like a fiery brand on her skin. Her body pulsed. “I want to taste you. What do you taste like? I will bet your juices are both sweet and salty.” Devon's lips caressed the words along her skin, “I would like to take those rosy nipples into my mouth and suck on them until you scream for me.”

Madeline shuddered. “Oh, God.”

Devon leaned in a little closer. “Explore every part of you. Have you wet and wide open.”

She gulped and squeezed her arms even tighter in a struggle to hold herself together. “Why don’t you?”

He grew quiet for a moment. “Because I want it to be your desire, not the whiskey or the magic.”

“I've never felt anything like this before.” The swirling vortex of need and desire cascaded through her.

“It’s mostly the water, but I can help you.” At his offer, exhilaration coursed through her. “But, I won't touch you,” he added, and crushing disappointment rippled over her. “If I could touch you, though, I would grab you and lower you down. I would use my mouth on you and my fingers. I’d open you and stick my tongue into you."
Madeline tried to slow her panting, feeling light-headed. The seductive spell of his voice wove around her like a blanket of sensual heat.
“I would bring you to the brink of climax with just my tongue. Then I’d plunge myself into you as you come.”

A wave of insurmountable yearning ripped through her, and moisture seeped from between her thighs. “Unh,” she breathed out.

“I’d pull your body up and bend you over. You’d be open and wet with need and wanting.”

“Ohh!” she shouted and put her hands between her legs. Out of control, Madeline shoved her fingers into herself.

Devon lightly touched her back with his bare chest as he spoke. “I’d thrust in and out as you grew wetter and wetter.” Inexplicably, she could feel it while pushing her fingers into herself. “You would be overflowing with me,” he purred at her. With his soft-spoken words, her tensing body shuddered. “In and out, pumping you deep and hard as you come on my cock.”

Madeline experienced the fantasy, and even the sensation of the pumping and sliding of his cock in her pussy. Her body tightened with a throbbing ecstasy beyond any she'd ever known. A powerful wave of orgasm engulfed her. “Ohh!” Her inner thigh muscles spasmed as her torso stretched out.
“And when I came, you’d climax again, and I’d suck on your nipples as my cum flowed into you.”

“Dev, please?” she pleaded. The orgasm did not recede, and her body throbbed wildly as she came onto her own fingers. Madeline envisioned what he described. “Stop!” she shouted, suspended in a vortex of rapturous splendor and suffering. “Oh, God, stop!”

He continued with his vocal fucking. “I’d mount you as they do in the wild. I’d reach around and play with your nipples as they hung down, aching for my touch.”

“No.” Her body plunged into climax again as his voice vibrated through her and she helplessly moaned.

“I’d grind into you and slide out, faster and harder and deeper until…” he whispered the sexual stimulation to her ear again, “…you’d come for me.”
“Ahh!” Madeline spasmodically came against her fingers again. “Ohh, oh.” Her body collapsed to
the bed, and she released a relieved groan.

Dev pulled his mouth away from her neck while one of his hands lowered. “I am gonna lift your dress up Madeline.” He smiled to her cheek. “I figure you know me well enough now.”

She bit her lip as her body began to throb.

He pulled her dress up to her waist. She was breathless as she stared out at the colors of the rock cliffs and she could smell the sweet pine scent of him as she nervously breathed in through her nose. “But Dev, where are we going to---?”

He removed his hands for a moment.

What are you doing?” She grabbed a hold of the horse’s mane to keep steady.

His hands returned, he grasped her hips and pulled her up. She drew in a sharp surprised breath as he lifted her body and moved her back toward him. “You’re really not going to—?”

With a swift motion, he pulled her hips down onto his lap and entered her. She gasped as her eyes rounded and her body shook.
“What?” He leaned close to her ear again. “You’ve never ridden before?”

She felt herself get wet around his cock as it went high up inside of her. She drew in another shaky breath as she hung onto the mane. The movement of the horse’s walk caused her body to move up and down on him. “Oh,” she moaned aloud as the rhythmic sliding became intensified by his grasp on her hips.

His hands came around, under her sundress and he tweaked her nipples with his warm fingers.

The movement jolted her insides and she began to climax immediately. “Oh no,” she whispered desperately as the powerful orgasm took her. She had never envisioned anything like this before in her entire life and she'd wanted the ride to go on forever…

So please help me give Ashlynne a big welcome and enjoy the post below for more details on how to win double the prizes.

Growing Pains

First and foremost, I’d like to thank Jennifer for having me today. I love it here at Labelle Books. The good vibes are ever present here. I thought this was the perfect place to reveal some exciting news in the Progeny Series camp.
I’ve never done anything the easy way in my life. Why should starting a writing career be any different? Two weeks ago, in the interest of giving my readers the best reading experience possible, I made the decision to re-release my first novel—The Progeny. This book is the first in a series, the foundation for the others to evolve.
To celebrate the “revamping” of book one and the upcoming release of book two, I’m offering three double prizes today. Each person who comments on today’s question will have the chance to win a copy of the “revamped” The Progeny and its sequel Blood Bonds. This contest will be ongoing for the next six weeks, so tell your friends. While you’re here, follow Jennifer’s blog and show her some love, too. I’m running the same promotion on my author page and the Progeny Series book page on Facebook. All you have to do is drop in and like these pages. Now for today’s questions: Who was your favorite literary vampire? Who is your favorite actor playing a vampire?

Thanks for having me here today, Jennifer and you’ll get your double copies as soon as the ARCS are ready. :)

You're very welcome, Ashlynne, it's always a pleasure to have you on here. I've liked and followed your Facebook pages and blog, now as for your question...
Favorite literary vampire? Hmm, that's a tough one there are so many... I guess I'll just go with the first one that comes to mind,
Renauldo D'Antoni from Kathy Love's novel Anyway You Want It. There's just something about the emotionally wounded vampire, and the story itself that I absolutely love. He's one of a long list of many...
Favorite actor playing a vampire? Um, let's go with Brad Pitt in Interview with a Vampire. *grins*
I'm looking forward to reading this series.
So there you have it folks, easy peasy. Like her pages, follow her blog, and answer a couple of simple questions. Ashlynne will announce her winners on Monday April 16th 2012.

A Guest Post and a GIVEAWAY with Author Kiki Howell

Guest Post: Intolerance in the Paranormal World

In the real world, intolerance is something that really bothers me, gets under my skin and gets me standing on my soap box as my mother says, no matter who it is aimed at. I am more of a quiet person though, not one to just offer my opinions. Yet, as I writer, I get to mouth off about about the injustices of the world in my fictional writing from time to time. But, in my new At War in the Willows Series, I got to wrap a whole world around my rants LOL! In the small resort town of The Willows, vampires, witches and werewolves live together peacefully in public, but are forbidden to relate in private. The humans remain gloriously unaware, well for the most part ;) In each book in the series I pair together two paranormal creatures, have them fall in love, and thus a war breaks out and escalates through the stories in the town. Some want things to stay as they are, fears from unknowns bring about prejudices that must be fought by those who wish to be together. Sound familiar?

As far as writing goes, it is always interesting to create a new paranormal world, decide how close to stay to typical mythology and how far to stray. In the Willows, in order for this fight for the freedom to be together to happen, I made a list of the strengths and weakness that are typical for each of my creatures, vampire and witch and werewolf, to see how they could relate, how they could fight, how they could stand on either side of the issues of being together, etc. I found it really interesting, and actually had to change very few things in my world, stray from the usual myths, in order to make it work. But I am usually that type of writer, I like the original Byron vampires, and the mythical witches with magic passed by bloodline. This worked well for me with the politics of the whole story, and fell in line, very closely related to prejudices and politics today in our own world where man fights man.

I guess my biggest thing though was to show that there were inherent dangers with the creatures being together (you know, the paranormal worlds always amp up any problem) but that with love, with understanding, with compassion, that the initial problems could be overcome - that it was really opening peoples minds that mattered. I believe that in the real world as well. I'm a champion of the underdog, and in this trilogy, that will probably be pretty evident. What I ended up with were three very intense stories, ones that linger in dark, mystical worlds, just the way I like my fiction, and have an underlying moral fiber along with battles and romance.

At War in the Willows, Novella Series -
Coming 2012 from Naughty Nights Press,

The Willows is a resort town run by vampires, werewolves and witches. Here, their true identities are kept secret from humans, and intimate relations between the individual clans are strictly forbidden.
When it becomes known that the vampire Amberlyn has fallen in love with the werewolf Kane, the tedious line of their co-existence has been crossed. Caught in the crossfire of this revelation, Drake, the vampire clan leader and Amberlyn’s maker, is killed along with an innocent witch. These deaths spark a series of horrific events leading to an all out War In The Willows.

In Book 1,

Amberlyn’s vampire brother, Isaac, always one to kick ass first and deal with the consequences later, kidnaps a witch, Winter. He intends to find out what type of retaliation the witch clan is planning against the vampires and werewolves. In doing so, he finds so much more then he bargained for.

By Book 2,

Isaac and Winter devise a plan to try to get the Elders of the clans talking peacefully. But, things don't go as they'd hoped, and the fighting between the clans becomes more devious - deadly. Now, Devin, another Vampire of Drake's making, steps in to help pick up some of the pieces.

When Book 3 begins,

it is Devin who hides the biggest secret; he’s in love with a local human. In a moment of desperation – of love – Devin sweeps this human, Sara, away to his home in order to keep her out of harm’s way.

Unexpected close encounters, bodies ripe with need, and situations beyond their control lead to forbidden relationships. Now three vampires, a witch, a werewolf and a human must ride along the edges of the rules. They will attempt once unthinkable romantic entanglements despite all those who oppose their relationships while fighting for their lives as well.

With the Willows full of violence and bloodshed, meetings and magic amiss, will the clans ever be able to find peace among them again? Or, will this war destroy the Willows?

A GIVEAWAY and an introduction with Robert Wacaster

So please help me give him a warm welcome. After all, he's generously offered to do a giveaway for you all. We'll be announcing the winner on April 7th. *grins*
Welcome, Robert!

Hi, my name is Robert Wacaster, a new author with Secret Cravings Publishing. I recently had a new release called Kiss the Darkness and Jennifer was kind enough to let me show a bit of it off here. (Thank you Jennifer, I really do appreciate it!) I really appreciate Jennifer hosting me, and also appreciate everyone who takes the time to read my guest post! I’d also be very happy to send a free pdf of Kiss the Darkness to one lucky commenter! So comment away, leave your email address, follow this blog and get out some tissues. You may be the lucky reader!
First, a bit about me. In my younger days I spent 4 years in the United States Air Force. Two of those years were spent overseas in a place called San Vito, Italy. It’s a rough thing to be away from your family for the first time when you’re younger. And back in the 80’s (I was there from 1986 to 1988) we didn’t have cell phones, or the internet, or anything like that. But I made my way through the tough times and I’d like to think I came out a better man for it. I was never in the military during war time (I just missed the first Gulf War.), and was never wounded, or hurt. But I can imagine how frightening that could be.
Getting wounded during wartime would be scary, but imagine not just getting wounded, but losing your sight. In researching my book I found out that approximately 70% of human perception is based on our sight. Once that’s gone, what do you do? My main character Robert has just lost his sight, though he can still see in his dreams. Dreams that become nightmares now. He’s in the dark, scared out of his wits, and doesn’t know what to do. Along comes a kind nurse named Holly. Second Lieutenant Holly Winters to be exact. She cares so much about the patients that come through the combat ward where she works. And when Robert comes into her hospital ward, she’s somehow drawn to him. She does what she can to comfort him, and help him through the darkness. Along the way, she finds herself falling in love with the poor, blinded airman.

In this short excerpt from the book, Holly has just returned to the hospital after a bit of a breakdown. She hadn’t experienced too much sadness, or loss quite yet. But one of the patients who she had become friends with had died, and then when the blind patient Robert had refused to eat and said he wanted to die too, she had slapped him and ran out of the hospital in tears. She returns the the hospital to work a night shift and takes a walk to Robert’s hospital room. She’s afraid at first to go in and talk to him at first. But eventually, when he calls to her, she finds some courage:

Simmons gave her a quick look, and then went back to talking quietly with Robert. Robert’s face
turned towards where Holly was standing, and for a few seconds, she had the feeling he could see her. He took a deep breath in through his nose. Holly turned to walk back out of the room.

“Don’t go, please? Holly? It’s you, isn’t it?”

Holly stopped in her tracks. She turned back toward Robert’s bed, not knowing what to say. “Yes,
I’m...I’m here.”

“I didn’t think you’d come back after today. I’m sorry about what I said.”

Simmons frowned at Holly, and then turned back towards Robert. “Are you okay with her here?”

“She’s fine, John. Can I talk to her for a minute? Would you mind?”

Simmons stood up slowly. “Yeah, no problem. Just holler if you need me.”

“I’ll be fine. Thanks for the radio and cupcake.”

“No problem. Just let me know if you need anything else.” Simmons walked slowly past Holly, watching her closely.

Holly sat down in the chair Simmons had been using. Robert reached out his hand toward her, and she gently took it in hers.

“I thought I’d lost you.” Robert said softly. “’re all I had in the dark, and I thought I’d run you off.”

“No.” Holly replied, her voice cracking. “No, I won’t leave you. I just...a friend died today, and...and...”

“Who was he?”

She wiped another tear from her cheek. “He doesn’t really matter, does it?”

Robert squeezed her hand. “Yes, it does matter. If he was someone important to you, then he’s
someone we should remember.”

“Sergeant Henry Moore. He was...he was an army sergeant and had lost an arm. I was always...taking him...I was...”

Robert pulled himself up in the bed, pulled Holly close, and hugged her tightly. She put her arms
around him and hugged him back. The flood gates opened, and she began to cry quietly, letting out all her grief and pain. He held her and let her cry, rubbing her back. After a few minutes, Holly released him from the hug and laid him back down. After wiping the tears from her face, she took his hand in hers again.

“I’m sorry, that’s not supposed to happen in front of a patient.”

“You needed it. You were keeping everything inside and needed a release.”

Holly reached over and gently touched Robert’s cheek. He flinched at her touch. She couldn’t tell if it was still red from when she had slapped him, or if it was her imagination. “I’m so sorry about hitting you today. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. And I deserved it.”

“You didn’t deserve it. You needed someone to understand your pain, not give you more.”

“No, I needed a slap. You were right and I should have shut my mouth and ate the food. They didn’t bring lunch back, but I ate dinner like a good boy.”

With one hand holding Robert’s hand, Holly began to stroke his arm gently with her other hand. “ did you know I was here?”

He let out a short laugh. “I could smell you. Well, smell and hear you. I know your walk, and how
you breathe. And...well, you smell a lot better than most of the guys in here.”

“Aren’t you going to ask why I’m here at night?”

“It’s night time? No, I’m just glad you’re here. How long can you stay? Nights can be rough here.”

“I’ll be here for you all night.”

“All night? When will you sleep?”

Holly stopped stroking Robert’s arm and took his hand in both of hers. “I’m working night shift now. So I’ll be here at night, if you need me.”

“I know it’s a lot to ask, but can you stay with me until I fall asleep? I keep having nightmares, and maybe you can help keep them away?”

“Of course. I’ll be right here, so you won’t have to be afraid. All you have to do is call out for me if you need me.”

Robert let out a long, relieved sigh. “Thanks, lieutenant. Thanks for being the one light I have in
all this darkness.”

As time goes on, Holly becomes more and more attached to Robert, even sneaking him out of the
hospital for a trip to her base dormitory room at one point. The story is pretty much a sweet romance. There is some harsh language and it is an emotional story at it’s heart, but it does have a good ending. I hope everyone enjoys this excerpt and will find it interesting enough to buy the book! Thanks again, Jennifer!
(I’m also working on a sequel to the book and hope, so there may even be more to the story eventually! *chuckle*)

Inspiration and a GIVEAWAY with Daisy Dunn

Where does your inspiration come from? I get asked this question all the time and there are a few answers I give people:

1. Inspiration comes from everything around me. From my interactions with people, to a walk in the park, to people-watching in a mall. Even without a pen in my hand or a laptop close at hand, I’m constantly writing stories or scenes in my mind, and thankfully, I can’t shut it off. So if you’re ever stuck for an idea, just look around you, let your mind soar, and you’ll be amazed by the inspiration in everyday things.
2. Inspiration to write first came from an amazing author my mom told me to read. I’ll never forget when I first picked up Dark Prince, by Christine Feehan, and read my first paranormal romance. I was instantly hooked. I’d always loved romance novels, but to add an element of the unknown where anything could happen, brought romance to a whole new level for me. Vampires, werewolves, shifters…I can’t get enough of these sexy beasts!!!

3. Inspiration to continue writing comes from another amazing romance author and dear friend, Cassandra Pierce. We decided to challenge each other with our writing one day and have continued to do so. This is how it works for us: we pick a day to start (our stories are outlined ahead of time), we set a word count for the evening (we both work full-time day jobs), and then we write while keeping in touch with each other throughout the night with our various word counts. When we finish a chapter, we submit to each other to read (not edit) and if something is confusing or missing, we point it out. She inspires me to keep going when I have a bad day or just don’t feel like writing. So far, every book we’ve written in our challenges has been contracted with several publishers. You’re the best, Cassandra!!!

My first writing challenge with Cassandra was for my book EARTH’S DESIRE, ELEMENTAL MAGIC BOOK ONE, which was released on March 21st through Siren Publishing. I’m very excited about this story, and I hope you’ll check it out. Thank, Cassandra for being there for me!!Being April 3rd, we are already into our next challenge *cracks knuckles* Here we go again!! Now go out and find your inspiration and let your imagination loose in the world!!!

Earth’sDesire, Elemental Magic Book One
Male/Female/Male Menage story with lots of heat!! (Witches, Werewolves, Magic)
Earth elemental Ivy, with the powers of the forest and soil, has individually met and fallen in love with identical twin brothers and werewolves Luke and Levi. Torn between the two men, they make love to her with equal fervor, trying to win her heart over and allowing her to make the final decision of who she ultimately wants to be with.
During this time of new discovery, love, and confusion, The Hunters, a werewolf-hunting society, are closing in on them. Ivy is mistaken for a werewolf and taken to a hideout to lure her lovers to a trap. With danger lurking everywhere, she must trust the brothers equally to save her, and they, in turn, must trust two of her elemental sisters, with the powers of air and fire, to aid them in their search for Ivy, the only woman they have ever loved.
As he stood in the bush, spying on his prey, wondering how best to approach her, she surprised him. She quickly removed all of her clothing and stood naked in the forest. Mercy. He crouched down, realizing he couldn’t walk up to her at this moment, as he’d probably frighten her. He knew he should walk away and never look back. Women only added complications to his already complex life, but she drew him to her. He felt the wrench in his soul, crying out to her to accept him as a man.
Her body had been beautiful with her clothes on, but standing naked before him, she personified perfection.
She proceeded to lie on the ground, seemingly enjoying herself, when she suddenly sat up and looked around. Assuming she must have heard him, he didn’t move as he watched her intently, still in a crouched position. His keen sense of smell kicked in as her aroused, womanly fragrance wafted seductively through the air. His cock jerked. His erection felt like it wouldn’t stop growing. Pushing painfully against his jeans, he ached for her.
She settled back on the earth, took one last look around from her recumbent position, and then she slowly relaxed. Once she stopped looking around, he stood quietly back up, immediately unzipping his jeans to give his cock some much-needed space. Unable to tear his gaze away, he watched her grab her full breasts and flick her fingers over her elongated, hard nipples. She moaned with desire as Levi noticed the vines coming to life, wrapping themselves around her wrists and gently pulling her arms back above her head. His first reaction had been to run over to her, chop the plants down, and save her. However, he didn’t sense any fear from her regarding the plants, as she became one with them. The vines continued down her body, wrapping around her legs and tenderly pulling them apart.
The blades of grass continued to grow rapidly, sensuously reaching up, stroking her breasts, flicking her nipples softly, and caressing her inner thighs. Lower down her body, their long, green fingers reached higher and fondled her sensitive snatch as she wiggled against their touch. More vines joined in, snaking around her hips to her flat stomach and edging lower to her pussy.
With incredible dexterity, hundreds of grass blades worked together to open her outer lips, allowing the leaves on the vine at her stomach access to her obviously swollen clit. The vines moved into place applying subtle pressure on her mons, while the attached leaves flicked her clit with a steady rhythm.
The sexuality and need in the air was palpable. Without thought, he grabbed his erection and stroked it firmly. As he gazed at her naked, aroused form, never had he been more jealous of plants in his life. He wanted to touch her, soothe her, and open her the way they did.
He continued to rub his erection faster, harder. He imagined her pussy surrounding his cock, pulling him in deeper, wrapping her shapely legs around his waist.
Levi swore he felt the earth’s power surge through the air past him and into the beauty before him. The speed of the vines’ leaves increased their tempo, which meant her release wouldn’t be far behind. He began to pump his cock faster and tighter, the pressure built pushing him to the brink of sexual madness.

Hope you enjoy!!
